So spring is on the way and winter is just a distant memory! Let’s celebrate by getting our nails on-trend and in-season with the perfect spring polish.
Spring is all about bright, fresh and light colors. Gone are the festive greens and reds, the dark glamorous burgundy and wine colors and the full-on sparkle of the party season. Think breath of fresh air and nature springing to life, the tulips pushed through the newly warmed up earth…and just pick a polish to match!
The season of growth and new life is all about peaches, corals and pinks, fresh turquoise and blue, aqua, mint, daffodil yellow, periwinkle and violet. The options are endless and there’s something for everyone. Just look outside of your window for inspiration! More neutral options are soft grey and muted beige.
There’s lots of inspiration from the runways too. The SS18 shows were full of a combination of black with pale glitter tips, muted metallics and single stripe nail art in lots of different color combinations – male models even rocked the stripe look and stripes could be horizontal or vertical. Gray stayed as a hot color on the runway too! Gray has been around for a while, either the steely dark look or the pale wispy hue – choose whichever you prefer.
To get the stripe look yourself, try buying nail tape; it’s definitely the easiest option. Nail tape is available in a huge color range and is very inexpensive. You can brighten up your neutral polish with a flash of hot pink or florescent yellow or stick to the classic look of black and white. The only limit is your imagination and a bit of practice – you could even try diagonal stripes!
Muted metallic are also big, with steel, chrome and rose gold colors making an appearance. The look can come off as pretty rock n’ roll and a bit badass too.
Stiletto Look vs. Natural
Nail lengths are very much a personal choice. Some runways featured the eye catching, but perhaps a little less practical, stiletto look, whilst others were pretty much just neat and natural. At the end of the day your nail look has to suit your lifestyle and practical needs, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be stylish and noticeable too!
Base & Top Coats
If you’re going for stronger colors, consider using a base coat too so your nails don’t stain – totally optional though. There’s many on the market and lots of reviews out there online, so choose which ones works best for you, your nails and your budget. As well as super shine, you can pick up matte finish top coats for a bit of a change.
Remember to have fun with your nails! Express yourself with color, shapes and styles – moreover you can change them whenever you want!
