Does Lipsense Dry Your Lips?

LipSense contains ingredients that may cause your lips to dry and will help to improve the natural cycles of the skin. Like the skin on your body, the skin on your lips also sheds the old dead skin to reveal a new layer.

There are certain ingredients you want to avoid when it comes to the lipstick and other lip products you put on your lips. There are many explanations out there why LipSense causes your lips to dry out and look flaky and may burn your lips.

For more information about LipSense, see our post on Lipsense vs Younique, where we mentioned the pros and cons of this product.

Why Does It Dry Lips?

According to the manufacturer, this lipstick will have a drying effect on your lips because of the exfoliating process that happens. But if you take a closer look at the ingredients, you will find that one of them is denatured alcohol.

So it is natural that your lips will react to this ingredient and will start drying out while it is adjusting to the formula.

After some time, the drying and wrinkling will start to go away, and you will have soft and moist lips again.

What are the Experiences of People Who Claim it Dries Their Lips?

People claim that this lipstick causes their lips to get very dry and make them look flaky when they apply it.

It will also cause the skin on their lips to peel all the time and even causes them to develop contact dermatitis.

What are the Experiences Of People Who Claim it Does Not Dry Their Lips?

Some people do not have any side effects except maybe the stinging of the alcohol the first time they use it.

Others say that the only side effects were that their lips get dried out and wrinkly for a few days.

Is LipSense Safe for Your Lips?

Though many of the advocates for LipSense claim that it is quite safe for you to use, there are some questions. The first question is, what is it made of, and are these ingredients good for you at all?

LipSense contains the ingredient propylene glycol that is also found in certain paints and even in antifreeze.

It is also not recommended to be used by pregnant women because of the possible side effects on the baby.

There are only a few steps to take before you may apply LipSense to your lips for the best effect.

  1. Apply some Oops Remover to your lips and rub them together.
  2. Use a warm wet cloth and clean your lips thoroughly to remove all debris and dead skin from your lips.
  3. If you do not have any Oops Remover, just clean your lips thoroughly with a warm wet cloth.

How to Remove LipSense From Your Lips

Included with the LipSense lip kit is the Oops Remover to help you to remove it from your lips quickly. You can also use some other products such as coconut oil or Vaseline to accomplish the same thing.

Just apply some of the Vaseline or coconut oil to your lips and leave it on for a few minutes. You can then easily wipe it off with a wet wipe, but you may struggle a bit with the darker colors.

  1. Thanks so much for your tip, Ashley! We’re sure LipSense lovers would be interested to try your method!

  2. I get SUCH dry lips in the winter, so maybe this sort of route could be interesting to take. I’m always open to anything that may make my lips less cracked!

  3. I always use the Glossy Gloss with my Lipsense because it definitely helps the lips feel softer and less dry! Plus a nice glossy sheen is so pretty!

  4. Moisturizing your lips before might be a really helpful idea! Although because of the oil residue the color might not stick as well. Thanks for the suggestion, and you’re welcome, Aimsy!

  5. I’ve never heard of this brand before but my lips get very dry easily, but I usually find liquid lipsticks help with that a little bit. The remover sounds great too!

  6. I haven’t heard of this lipstick before. I wonder if placing on some coconut oil, or other moisturising oil would help. I find matte lipsticks are drying, but I think that is because of the look of the lipstick. Very informational post!
    Thanks for sharing!
