Bright, Bold & Beautiful
Go loud or go home! Yep that’s right, bright, bold and beautiful is back. Think yellow, shocking pink, red, royal blue etc.
Yellow is particularly big and featured lots on runways. There were lots of monochrome primary colors, but splatterings of bright rainbow color mixes were everywhere too.
The 80’s is another strong theme, think strong shoulders and nipped in waists. The trend takes in both daytime casual and glamorous business looks and evening wear. The key thing about the 80s look really is puffed sleeves or padded shoulders. A classic! Off the shoulders are gone and shoulders are definitely coming back – big, voluminous, bouncy. A simple way to bring the trend into your summer look is having dramatic proportions on top, paired with a miniskirt.
The other color trend that popped up a lot was ice-cream pastel shades, particularly seen as floaty dresses. Transparent fabric was also big here. Color wise, think lilac, lemon, peach and pale pistachio hues. Lilac in particular featured heavily.
There were some individual pieces that came up a lot on the runways too. Fanny packs or bum bag, worn diagonally or around the waist, were seen in every color and design imaginable. Plastic fantastic was also big, with PVC featuring as shoes, boots, coats – you name it!
Trench coats are going to be key too, worn with everything and in the full color range, get yours out of the closest now or make a brand-new on-trend investment purchase.
Geeky or classic sneakers are going to be hot again. Pop them on with everything, fitted trousers, voluminous skirts, cute minis.
Polka dots are still around too, so get your spotty items out of the closet again!
Perfectly tailored trouser suits are here to stay too, but in either brights or pastels. Some were 80s style, some double breasted, but all were ultra-chic and glamorous.
The well-loved full-skirted midis are out and longer-lined pencil skirts are in, as well as waist belts on everything and lovely soft vintage floral tea dresses.
It’s going to be an eclectic summer for fashion it seems! But at least there is something for everyone and there’s a good chance most people have at least a few of these items already in their wardrobe.
With the purchase of a few key pieces, you’ll soon be rocking the SS18 look.
