Apply the mixture immediately to your hair and let it sit for about five minutes (no more than 10) and then rinse it out and condition your hair.  This treatment may dry out your hair, so you’ll want to give it a deep conditioning shortly after completing the treatment.

Color Removers

Color strippers and color reducers are the two types of color removers.  Stripping your hair color at home with a color stripper can be damaging to hair, while color reducers don’t cause much damage to hair.  If you’re not sure whether you have a color reducer or a color stripper, smell the solution.

Here are some of our favorite ways to remove or lighten purple hair dye without using bleach.

Swimming

The chlorine in pool water can help fade your hair color.  The more you swim/the longer your hair is under the water, the more effective the chlorine will be at fading the color.  Ocean water may also help to fade your purple hair color, but it won’t be as quick or effective as swimming in a chlorinated pool.

Sunlight

Spending more time out in the sun (while still being sure to protect your skin and scalp using sunscreen) may also help to get the purple dye out of your hair.  Combining time in the sun with swimming at the pool or the ocean can also be effective at working to fade the dye color.  Sunlight will work better when trying to fade a color direct dye than a permanent hair color dye.

Baking Soda

You’ll need to add shampoo, 40 volume developer, and dish soap to a bowl with the baking soda in it.

Anti-Dandruff Shampoo or Clarifying Shampoo
