There’s nothing like a bit of rain to ruin the makeup look you’ve put together! Whether you’re on a night out or it’s a day look you’re going for, a splash of rain can be a real pain.
The real key to maintaining your makeup in bad weather is the products you choose. The most important things to consider are a good waterproof eyeliner, mascara, and eyebrow pencil, as these will make the most mess of your makeup if they run. Jet black tears streaming down your face are never a great look (unless that’s what you’re going for).
As always, there are lots of price points to choose from – you can spend a little, or a lot to find your perfect waterproof essentials.

Mascara
Runny, smudgy or flaky mascara just looks awful. It’s probably top of the list to get right.
A great waterproof mascara is also really handy in hot weather too, say if it’s getting a bit humid or if you’re lounging poolside.
It’s really worth considering making your everyday mascara waterproof.

If you want to take your waterproof makeup to the next level, the next things to look at are base, lip, cheek and eye color. As a general rule, waterproof liquid bases, BB creams and tinted moisturizers have a better staying power than a powder-based product.

A powder blush is not an excellent choice for a rainy day. A cream blush is a way better option. Same with cream pencil highlighters and contouring pencils, they’ll last much much longer than powder versions.

When it comes to eye shadow, technique and quality do count. You can get some highly pigmented cream eye colors and paying a little more for quality products does tend to pay off. Technique-wise, applying and blending with purpose-made brushes will help with staying power too.
Finally, you can even get waterproof lipstick too, but just a good lipstick with staying power that you’ve probably already got in your kit will do the job. If it can withstand eating and drinking, it’s gonna do OK in the rain!
Setting Spray
If you want even more staying power, you can also buy special setting sprays for that final touch.
But realistically, if you’re been caught in a downpour or you’ve been basking by the pool all day, a little touch up is probably going to be needed. A great compact and portable makeup carry case is your friend so you can do a little touch up when required.
So, if that rain just won’t go away, at least your makeup is here to stay!
